Acoustic Guitar

An acoustic guitar is related to many old stringed instruments that were played by strumming or plucking a series of strings. Over time they have changed and evolved a great deal but all have a few common attributes, a hollow body that naturally amplifies the sound, strings to produce the sound and some way to modulate the strings to produce different notes.

An acoustic guitar typically has six strings although some are made with more they are incredibly difficult to play. Their quieter sound often requires that it be amplified when playing with a band, but alone they can easily fill a room with music. Other types of acoustics are classical guitars, steel string or flat-top “folk” guitars, and arch top guitars.

The sound in an acoustic guitar is produced by the soundboard which is the wooden piece on the front of the guitar body. With the addition of magnetic pick-ups an acoustic can be an electric as well with many different sounds available including the standard acoustic sound only louder.
