Guitar Neck
The guitar neck is one of the most important parts of a guitar. Without one it just isn’t a guitar and the only part that is missing from completing the guitar is the body which is only important on acoustic versions. There are electric guitars and basses that are all neck with no body but they are rare.
A guitar neck needs to be stiff. The tension of the strings is what determines the sound the instrument will make and if that changes so will the tone and pitch of the note. Heavy steel strings can cause this much more easily and require incredibly stiff necks aided by the truss rod.
A guitar neck can have marker dots or upraised frets along the top surface. This aids in finding specific areas to fret to produce accurate chords and notes. A fretless neck has no markings and allows for complex slides and warping tones although it is more difficult to play accurately and is reserved for the most talented musicians.
