Guitars
Guitars are one of the most popular musical instruments available today. They are easy to learn how to play, many people have taught themselves with no technical instruction, and they are easy to transport. They typically have six strings that are tuned to notes E, B, G, D, A, and E although there are some guitars that have 4, 8, 10 and 12 strings.
Guitars can either be acoustic where the sound is amplified by the hollow body, or they can be electric where the sound is amplified. Electric versions became available in the 1930s and continue to heavily influence popular culture today with an incredibly wide variety of sounds. Without amplification they produce very little sound and have a solid body.
Guitars have a neck that contains the frets, fret board, head stock and truss rod. This is one of the most important parts as it controls the sound and pitch of the notes. A stiff neck is a sign of a good guitar as a weak or flexible neck with constantly change tones when playing and tuning it. Heavy gauge strings are prone to causing neck flex.
